EAST CORNWALL HARRIERS REPORT 5 JUNE 2017.

On 4th June Tyler Gregory was in action again in the South West Athletic League at the Exeter sports Arena. Tyler again displayed his talents this time on the track. A victory in the 800 metres in the amazing time of 2m 28sec was the highlight. Third place in the 200 m & 2nd in the relays added to another brilliant day for this fast maturing athlete.

On Saturday 3rd June the Dartmoor Discovery Ultra Marathon took place. This is the UK longest single lap ultra marathon – hosted by Teignbridge Trotters. It takes place over 32 miles of the rolling but steep hills of Dartmoor & is a real test of fitness & determination. The race started in warm sunshine as 200 runners set off . Of course towards the two thirds stage the weather had deteriorated into harsh driving rain making it difficult for the competitors. Teignbridge Trotters as usual provided brilliant marshalling & support with 10 feeding stations around the route.

The race was won by Adam Holland in 3.44.22- running for the 100 Marathon club & actually completing his 300th Marathon – a very special day for him & massive congratulations on two great achievements in one day.

Oliver Jones was first Harrier home in 4th place overall and 3rd in age category in 4.00.34 – this brilliant time was actually 46 minutes faster than when Oli last ran this race 10 years ago.

Diane Roy a former ladies race winner finished in 4.51.50 , 4th overall and 2nd in Age Category – collecting yet more trophies for her collection

Clive Shute finished in 5.24.45 another great performance. Kaye Patterson who was in action last week to come 6th in the Women Only Marathon still had plenty of energy to go further and complete the 32 miles in 5 27.47. Magnificent effort.

Club Chairman Mark Andrews running this race for the 7th time completed the course in 5.56.04 closely followed by Matthew Loughrey-Robinson in 5.57.38.

Tremendous grit & determination from all the competitors.

Claire Davidson made the long trip to the Cotswolds to compete in her first Half Ironman competition at Ashton Keynes Water Park – the Cotswold 113. The race is a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike race & ends with a Half Marathon. Claire had set herself a target time of 7 hours but had an amazing day to finish in 5.49.41 – a great first Half Man Race.

Andrew Sims just back from competing in Ireland travelled to Blenheim Palace to compete in the UK Bloodwise Super Sprint TriAthlon series. Andrew finished in 57.48 to get 3rd in Age Group – another good days work.
