EAST CORNWALL HARRIERS RACE REPORT 11 JUNE 2017.

Another busy week for East Cornwall Athletes.

On 3 June Marcus Wills expanded his proven running ability to compete in his first Triathlon at Wadebridge. Starting with a 400m swim then 26k cycle ride & finishing with a 5 k run. Marcus completed the race in 1.37.56 an excellent debut to this sport.

On 11 June, Ollie Lord made the long trip to Leeds to compete in the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon series in very serious company. The Elite race produced a 1 – 2 finish for the Brownlee Brothers. The race is set around Roundhay Park. In the junior – under 20 race – Ollie finished in 4th place in 1.31.02. This was an astounding performance from the young Harrier.

Also on 11 June in the Devon Open Series Athletics series held in Tavistock – Tyler Gregory again crossed the border into Devon & achieved tremendous results. First in the 800 metres with a brilliant run in a race he dominated and 1st in the 100 metres after a storming sprint & 4th in the long jump. Tyler again showing his commitment and dedication to his sport. A real credit to East Cornwall.

On Tuesday it was round 7 of the Cornwall Grand Prix road running series the Cubert 5. This is one of the most popular race in the series & is two laps of Cubert Village near Newquay. A sellout race of 700 athletes started the race on a warm and windy evening. The ever improving quality of road runners in Cornwall means now that 5 mile races are almost sprints. The first 37 finishers completed the race within 30 minutes. Tony Brewer from Mile High Club won the mens race in 26.43 with Jordan Clay from Cornwall AC only 4 seconds behind. The ever consistent Emma Stepto of Cornwall AC won the womens race in 29.14.

First home for the Harriers was Alex Coley in 32.53 just ahead of Chris Ullman in 33.05 who was just 15 seconds ahead of mens team Captain Ian Littlewood in 33.20. Simon Webber 33.41 was 4th Harrier & 2nd in the 60 -64 age group – a brilliant effort. Revis Crowle produced another storming run to finish in 34.14 and 1st in her age category. Ian Crowle was next to finish in 35.03 and 1st MV55. Glenn Wood 36.12 came home just head of Sharon Daw 36.40. who was 2nd in her age category. Marcus Wills 36.56 just edged out Louise Littlewood 36.59 – by 4 seconds. Simon Coley 39.16 was very pleased to beat the 40 min mark. Alan Green 39.47 had a great race & also beat the 40 minute mark. Lucy Oldham 41.07 finished ahead of Craig Vaughnley 41.43. Next came David Lean in 42.04; Lindsey Saunders produced a pb 43.09 and Sam Hunkin 43.18. Steve Beazley 46.39 obtained a PB for this course and Sam Lane 49.08 completed the Harriers team. All Harriers finished under 50 minutes so a good effort from all.

Sharon Daw was out again on Sunday 11 June to compete in the Yeovil Marathon hosted by Yeovil Town Running Club in Devon. This is a fast 2 lap course around RNAS Yeovilton. Sharon finished in 4.08.26 to complete another fine week of racing.
