EAST CORNWALL HARRIERS and On & Off Road Week. 26 June 2017.

East Cornwall Harriers were in action last week both on & off road.

On Wednesday 21st June, 8 Harriers entered round 9 the Penultimate Race of the Multi Terrain series - Meet Your Max – starting & finishing at Truro Rugby Club. The race is a mainly off road very hilly and a muddy race which is mostly run on the trails in the woods of Pencalenick over 6.5 miles. The race also involves climbing over obstacles & fallen trees – a tough outing for all runners.

As the Multi Terrain Series nears its climax there are still many age categories to be competed for.

First home for the Harriers was Captain Ian Littlewood in 53.12 . Second home Chris Ullman in 54.08 and 5th in Male Vet 45 group. Revis Crowle had another brilliant run to finish in 56.42, as 2nd overall and 1st in her age group and looking good to win her group. Ian Crowle was close behind in 58.54 and 2nd in his age group.

Hayley Stacey had another fine run to finish in 1.01.13 and 2nd in Age Group. Marcus Wills 1.02.37 was next Harrier Home.

Louise Littlewood 1.04.26 came home 2nd in her age category just ahead of Meeta Nicholls 1.04.55. Our ladies team of Revis Crowle, Hayley Stacey, Louise Littlewood and Meeta Nicholls were second overall & keep their place as leaders in the series.

On Saturday 24 June, 13 Harriers travelled to Sticker near St Austell to compete in round 7 of the 15 race Cornwall Grand Prix – the road racing series.

The 5 mile race is surprisingly tough – described as undulating – which in Cornwall means hilly. Bearing this in mind the times achieved by the runners are quite amazing. The mens race was won by Tony Brewer from Mile High Club and the ladies race by Emma Stepto from Cornwall AC.

For East Cornwall Harriers, Alex Coley stormed home in 33.57 followed by the very consistent Chris Ullman - racing for the 2nd time in the week – in 34.39. Simon Webber was 3rd Harrier in 35.02 & 2nd in his age group of MV60 – an excellent performance.

Revis Crowle 35.53 – also on her 2nd outing this week was 1st in her age category. Ian Crowle 36.30 just failed to catch his wife but was 3rd in his gae category. Sharon Daw 37.01 running a much shorter distance than she usually does wa s1st in her age category – a great run.

Glenn Wood 37.09 was just 8 seconds behibd Sharon. Louise Littlewood another Harrier racing twice in the week came home in 37.36 and also 3rd in her age group. Ben Harding 38.57 just edged out Cheryl Hanns 39.10 by 13 seconds and both were very pleased with their runs.

Craig Vaughnley 41.29 achieved a personal best over the distance and came home just ahead of Dave Lean who again pulled out another very consistent finish.Lucy Oldham 44.23 completed the field for the Harriers and achieved a brilliant pace on this tough course.

On Sunday 25 June 6 Harriers headed off to run in the Torbay Half Marathon including Glenn Wood & Lucy Oldham who had raced the night before at Sticker.

First Harrier home was Stephen Woodard in 1.46.38 & a vey creditable 11th in his age category.

Claire Davidson had a fine speedy run to come home in 1.50.57 and 8th in her age group. Andrew Berry 1.52.35 just finsihed ahead of Glenn Wood 1.54.46 – not only 2nd race in 2 days but 2nd Half Marathon in a week.

Lucy Oldham finished in a an excellent 2.05.33 and Michael Palmer in 2.07.21. Avery good set of results from the Harriers.
