East Cornwall Harriers is a very friendly club which welcomes runners of all abilities. The club has the following weekly sessions, which all go from Liskeard Sports and Social Club, Lux Park Sports Centre, Liskeard, unless otherwise stated.

EAST CORNWALL HARRIERS REPORT 9 JULY 2017.



JUNIORS ROUND UP.


Our Junior runners were in action in the last week at different locations.

In the South West athletics League Round 3 at Exeter Arena, Charli Dawsson had a very good day getting 2nd in the 800m and 4th in the 1500 m. Tyler Gregory again produced great runs to be 3rd in the 200m and 6th in the 1500 m.


On 1st July at Liskeard in the Into To Tri series Junior Triathlon Will Frith was 1st in the under 8. Ruby Davidson in the 9-10 age group had a fine race to finish in 18.49. Connie Frith in the 11-12 age group achieved a fine 7th. Grace Wonnacot performed well to finish in 26.59.


On 9 th July at the North Devon Arena hosted by the North Devon Athletics Club – in the Young Athletes Open Competition- Tyler Gregory had an outstanding day getting Gold in the 800m , Silver in the 100m and Bronze in the 200m. Not a bad days work for the young Harrier.


Endurance Life Quarter Snowdonia.

On 1st July Diane Roy and Pat Munn travelled to North Wales to tackle the toughest race in the Endurance series. The race starts at Borth and heads up and over Snowdon – through the hills of the Snowdonia National Park to finish at Conway. The race includes the full ascent of 3329 feet of Mount Snowdon and a total climb of over 9039 feet over 47 miles of rugged rocky and boggy terrain. Diane & Pat completed the course in 12h 31m. Diane - 1st FV50 and Pat 1st MV55.


Dartmoor Sportive Classic Races.


Saturday 1st July saw some 2500 entrants descend on Newton Abbott to tackle the Sportive Races hosted by Mid Devon Cycling Club. There are 3 courses of 100 miles the Grande Race,65 miles the Medio Race and 35 miles the Piccolo Race. The courses are all extrmely hilly – especially in the fisrt half ascending over Dartmoor. From East Cornwall 4 male riders tackled the Medio Race and all achieved Bronze Medals. Andrew Sims & Andrew Lord , 5.09.14 – just headed off Simon Long 5.13.14 and Glenn wood 5.14.55


In the Piccolo Race 6 lady Harriers took up the challenge. First home – Revis Crowle 2.05.59 - 3rd lady overall and 1st in FV50 getting the Gold award. Second Harrier was Claire Davidson 2.13.11 , 3rd Tessa Mason 2.19.41 and 4th Amanda Erith 2.26.00 who was also first FV 60 all getting Gold awards. Karen Sims and Debbie Lord 2.59.51 were awrded Silver for the second year running.


ErmeValley Relays.


Each year local Cornwall and Devon Athletics Clubs compete in the Erme Valley Relays at Ivybridge. Teams of 4 compete over 2.5 mile laps. This year 122 teams competed making nearly 500 runners took part. On a warm summer evening the competition was very close and friendly.


The Harriers fielded 7 teams – 3 ladies and 4 mens teams. Fastest mens team were the ECH Whippets, Oli Jones, Doug Stacey, Steve Sims who completed the 10 miles in 54.48. Fastest ladies team were the Young and Breathless , Hayley Stacey, Evie Brailsford Tracey Brown and Kaye Patterson. Evie Brailsford was 2nd fastest lady on the night and the team were 3rd fastest ladies.

The 2nd ladies team – Shake Rattle and Roll – Claire Davidson, Louise Littlewood, Revis Crowle and Sharon Daw won the FV 45. category. A very good night for the club.


Summer Turkey Trot


On Wednesday 5 July seven Harriers made the trip to Redruth to run in Round 8 of the Cornwall Road Running Grand Prix. A record field of 506 runners made it to the start attracted by the chance to run against guest runner Mike Grattan the 1983 London Marathon Winner.

On a hot and sticky night the race was run at a blistering pace over the 4 mile undulating course. First home for the Harriers was Steven Sims in 23.09. Evie Brailsford had a fast run to finish in 25.07 fifth Lady home & 3rd in her age Group. Simon Webber was 3rd Harrier in 27.46 also 3rd in his MV60 age group. Sharon Daw 28.49 continued her brilliant form to finish first in her FV50 age group. Andrew Sims 30.10 had another fast run and fisnished ahead of David Lean 33.58 another Harrier showing a consistent run of form. Karen Sims 35.54 completed the race in an excellent time and not sufferring after her great performance at the Dartmoor Classic.
