Harriers Race report 5 November 2017

07 November 2017
Written by: CHRIS ULLMAN

ECH RACE REPORT 5 NOVEMBER 2017.

Sunday 5th November 2017 saw Bideford Athletic Club host the Bideford 10 miler, possibly the fastest 10 miler in Devon.

The race starts and ends in Bideford.

There were over 900 finishers of the race which is a combination of road & trail. The race takes runners out of Bideford following the bank of the Torridge Estuary to Instow and into Yelland and then on to the Tarka Trail running through a tunnel for the return leg.

The course is relatively flat with only 3 small hills but was made hard as runners faced a strong headwind on the outer leg.

The race was won by Bidefords Shaun Antell in a very respectable 51.19.

Five Harriers made the trip.

First home was Darren Harvey in 1.05.22 followed by Simon Webber in 1.09.32 which was good enough to place Simon 1st in his MV60 age Group, a brilliant result.

Kaye Patterson was third Harrier in 1.16.10. Karl Saunders 1.21.34 was 4th and the fast improving Lyndsey Saunders had a great race to finish in 1.29.49.

For Sharon Daw another very busy week following on from last Sundays Dartmoor Vale Marathon Sharon managed to find a midweek race & competed in the Halloween Marathon on 31st October at Samphire Hoe Country Park between Folkestone & Dover. Sharon came home in 4.27.42. The next day 1st November Sharon was again at Samphire Hoe to compete in the World Vegan Marathon Challenge and finished the race in 4.19.43 – 8 mins faster than the previous day.

Sharon moved on to Bristol to run her 4th Marathon of the week the Gordano Round marathon hosted by Portishead Running club in the Gordano Valley on 4th November. Sharon posted 5.14.59 and was 3rd in her age group on the tough course. An exhausting week for our distance specialist who is aiming for 10 marathons in 10 days in November including the Cornish Marathon on 19th November.
