Sunday 11th of November saw the Annual Remembrance Day run at Marazion on the beach opposite St. Michaels Mount. All runners are asked to wear Red and so the race has a very distinctive appearance & atmosphere.

The 4.2 mile race is run on deep sand which is energy sapping & this year made harder with stretches under water due to the high tide.

Nine Harriers made the long journey. Darren Harvey was 1st Harrier home in a very fast 28.40 and 3rd in his MV 40 age Group. Ben Harding had a brilliant run to be 2nd Harrier in 30.23. Revis Crowle was 1st lady Harrier in 33.15 and a great 1st in her FV55 age group. Glenn Wood 34.39 4th Harrier just 84 seconds behind Revis. Meeta Nicholls 35.02 was a very fine 2nd in her FV40 category with Kaye Patterson 35.30 just 28 seconds behind. Karl Saunders had another fine run to finish in 36.29 just heading off the consistent Dave Lean 37.29. Mary Mullarkey 47.11 was very pleased to be 2nd FV 65. A good set of performances by The Harriers..

The fast growing sport of Canicross – cross country running with dogs is attracting more competitors to the very well organised events. Over the past few years some East Cornwall Harriers have been involved with this sport and at the weekend 4 Harriers competed at a 2 day event at Newnham Park Plympton.

It was a two day event with times being combined from the two days to determine category winners for the event. It was run in a time trial format with runners being sent off approximately 15 seconds apart. The course was approximately 5km and was extreme off-road with plenty of knee high mud, woodland trails, very technical twists and undulations, water, tree obstacles, steep ascents and descents and a short field section. It was a real test of a canine running partnership and required skill as well as speed.

Ian Littlewood was first in the Senior Male 1 dog category both days winning that category and setting the fastest combined time of the weekend, 41:34. Ian also ran each race twice (glutton for punishment) and won the Senior Male 2-Dog category both days winning that category and also setting the 6th fastest combined time of 47:17! Louise Littlewood finished first in the Vet Female 2-Dog category both days to win that category, 49:35 combined. Sam Lane was 2nd on day 1 and 3rd on day 2 in the Senior Female 1-Dog category coming 2nd for that category with a combined time of 55:02. Chris Ullman ran just the second day but won the Vet Male 1-dog category day classification (not event) in 26:02. This was both Sam and Chris’s first cani-cross race so both were delighted with the results.

Over at Newquay it was another round of the Charles Stanley Westward League Cross Country.

Sharon Daw running a much shorter distance than her usual Marathons had a great run to finish 1st in her age Group. The juniors also had a a very good day.

Tyler Gregory had a 3rd place in the Cornwall Cross Country Championships & a 1st in the team race.Charli Dawson achieved 4th in the Cornwall Championship and with Tyler gain selection to run for the County. Connie Frith had a great run in the U13 girls and Will Frith in the U11 boys.
