EAST CORNWALL HARRIERS RACE REPORT 26 NOVEMBER 2017.

Harriers Double First at Mob match.

The end of the Cornwall Road Running season was celebrated in Falmouth on Sunday 26th November with the famous Falmouth Mob Match Race and the presentation of the final awards for the Cornwall Glass & Glazing Grand Prix series.

The Mob Match has a complicated scoring system with clubs split into 3 divisions according to the size of the club. All runners competing can influence the result because the higher each runner can finish can affect the points scored by members of other clubs. East Cornwall Harriers had the biggest turn out of runners for years as 55 Harriers made the trip to the Falmouth Hotel.

The race itself is a tough 5 mile run around Falmouth starting & finishing at the Falmouth Hotel. There are 3 hills to conquer. The race takes runners around the docks & Castle before heading back to run along the beach front before heading off around the Swan Pool and back to finish in a fast flat straight outside the Falmouth Hotel.

For Sundays race the weather was cool and dry.

As usual the pace was fast & furious with all of Cornwall's top runners competing. East Cornwall Harriers is a division 2 club and needed 8 runners in the mens & ladies team to compete for the points.

Outstanding running by the Harriers secured top spot for both the ladies and the mens teams thus displacing Falmouth Road Runners as the current champions. A truly brilliant performance by the Harriers.

The victorious ladies team of Revis Crowle, Diane Roy, Rosie Goldsworthy, Helen Morse, Kaye Patterson, Cheryl Hanns, Jenny Nash & Louise Littlewood scored 1101 points ahead of Falmouth Road Runners in 2nd with 1700 points & Carn Runners with 1921 points.

The mens team of Doug Stacey, Marc Smerdon,Oli Jones, Drew Clarke, Darren Harvey , Mark Davidson, Dave Robinson and Ian Littlewood scored 303 points ahead of Falmouth Road Runners with 403 points and Carn Runners with 707 points.

The final Grand Prix placings highlighted many consistently good performance over the 8 qualifying races. In the MV Over 35, Ben Harding was 9th. Male Vet Over 45 Chris Ullman 11th. Male vet over 55 Dave Philp 2nd. & Dave Lean 10th. Male vet over 60 Simon Webber 2nd by beaten by only 1 point. Mini GP under 20 , Alex Coley 4th.

Female Vet Over 40, Lucy Oldham 14th, Female Vet over 45 Louise Littlewood 4th. Female Vet over 50 , Revis Crowle 1st, Sharon Daw 2nd.

Another fine season for the Harriers in the Road Running Grand Prix and also in the Multi Terrain Series.

Currently Sharon Daw is competing in the Saxons Vikings & Normans 10 in 10 Marathon Challenge, 10 marathons in 10 days and has in the last week already completed 6 back to back Marathons starting after she ran the Cornish Marathon.
