EAST CORNWALL HARRIERS RACE REPORT 21ST JANUARY 2018

Our Marathon motivated runner Sharon Daw kept on course for her current challenge of 52 Marathons in 52 weeks . Having recently completed the 10 marathons in 10 days challenge – Sharon returned to Betteshangar in Kent to run the amusingly called Chocathon Marathon and notch up nr 44 out of 52 marathons in 4.34.19. On 21st January Sharon competed much closer to home in the Plym Trail Marathon at Clearbrook in Devon competing number 45 out of 52 marathons in 4h10m 25secs – and third lady overall. Sharon now moves even closer to the 200 marathon mark with over 175 races completed. Sharon was not alone for the First & Last running races at Clearbrook – where Rachael Young completed a 2 out of 2 marathons in 2 days. On Saturday 20th January Rachael came home in 4h 46m2 1s & On Sunday 21st January in 5h 01m 50 secs. Brilliant running by our 2 lady Harriers.

Sunday 21st January saw the first race of the Cornwall Road Running Grand Prix – Storm Force 10 – hosted by Carn Runners. A week before the race there were concerns about the event being run as many of the roads around Camborne were flooded.

After a short walk to the start from Camborne College 580 runners set off onto the 10 mile race route of the quiet undulating roads around Camborne. 10 Harriers started the race – the team being slightly depleted due to illness.

First home was the fast inproving Darren Harvey in 1.05.39. Chris Ullman pulled out another consistent performance to finish in 1.10.53 just ahead of Simon Webber in 1.11.50 who was 4th in the very competitive MV60+ age group. Revis Crowle 1.12.02 was 1st Lady Harrier and also 1st in the FV 50 age group. Glenn Wood although suffering a heavy cold finished in 1.16.08 & achieved his first PB of 2018.

Kaye Patterson 1.17.06 was 2nd femalr Harrier & just held off Ben Harding 1.17.56.

The indestructible Rob Pick came home in 1.21.43 just ahead of Club Chairman Mark Andrews 1.25.01 Lyndsey Saunders had another very fine run to finish in 1.29.52.
