Dear Members,

On Thursday 29 March 2018 it is the East Cornwall Harriers AGM.
Ian Littlewood has already posted an article on the club website in respect of the AGM.
The meeting starts at 8 pm in the Liskeard Sports & Social Club function room.
The club provides a free buffet which the members enjoy prior to the meeting.

As with most clubs the existing Committee stands down & those that wish can offer themselves for election. This is the opportunity for non committee members & officers to offer themselves for election to any post that they wish to be considered for. The procedure is that each member standing for election has a proposer and seconder and then a vote is taken.
This year your Committee has decided that the post of Chair will voted in on the night by confidential ballot slip with all other posts being selected in the usual manner by a show of hands.

There are 11 Committee posts and 6 officer posts.

The posts are Full Committee : President – Chair – Secretary – Treasurer – Head coach – Membership Secretary – Men's Captain – Ladies' Captain – Child Protection Officer – Wednesday Group Liaison – Web Master.

Officer Posts : Kit Officer – Press & Publicity – Cornish Marathon Race Director – Star Awards Officer – Schools Liaison Officer – Social secretary.

So far the Committee have been given notice that the Chair and Mens & Ladies Captains are standing down and nominations are needed as well, for the current vacant post of Social Secretary. The Social secretary post can be a shared post as it is appreciated that organising social events is easier when there are more than one person to set up an event. This is a very important post & can help cohesion within the club & promote opportunities for informal exchanges of opinion as well as enjoying each others company.

All members are invited to place themselves forward for election for any of the posts.

The Committee feel it is very important that there is a flow of new Committee members from all parts of the club, including our Wednesday evening runners, to the Committee to ensure that all parts of the club are fully represented and that new ideas can be put forward to ensure the club is relevant & forward thinking for all members.

Members who wish to express an interest in any position can message or speak to any Committee member to find out what is involved in carrying out the different roles.

So far for the total of 17 posts the Committee are aware of 8 members who are prepared to stand for election including those standing for re-election. This means in effect that at least 9 more nominations are needed and the club hopes that members will seriously consider putting their names forward prior to the AGM.

Please also be aware that if any member has a suggestion for consideration at the AGM they should send their suggestion in writing to Meeta Nicholls (Club Secretary) no later than two weeks before the AGM (i.e. 15th March) the Committee in order that it can be put on the agenda. If suggestions put forward are similar they will be considered together.

So please come along to your AGM, have your say, or maybe put yourself forward for a Committee position and vote for the people you want to see managing your club for the next twelve months.
