EAST CORNWALL HARRIERS RACE REPORT 11 MARCH 2018

A cold Sunday March morning saw 15 Harriers make the trip to North Devon for the Bideford Half Marathon. This is a popular race prior to the London Marathon which is only slightly undulating enabling the runners to try & achieve personal bests.

Doug Stacey was first home in a very fast 1.19.35. The ever improving Darren Harvey was 2nd Harrier in 1.25.00 . Chris Ullman 1.31.13 held off Simon Webber 1.33.13 by just 2 minutes and Simon was 3rd in his MV60 age group. David Hannah 1.30.07 finished just 59 seconds ahead of Martin Nicholls 1.39.06. Kaye Patterson 1.40.33 was first lady Harrier. Ben Harding 1.45.26 kept just ahead of the determined and fast finishing Hayley Stacey 1.45.35 by 9 seconds.

Meeta Nicholls had another fine run to come home in 1.47.19.

Rob Pick 1.49.19 with another solid performance just edged Mark Andrews 1.50.08.

Glenn Wood 1.55.25 was next Harrier ahead of another improving Harrier, Lyndsey Saunders 1.59.03. Michael Palmer 2.01.54 had a another very fine run to complete the Harriers finishers.

Congratulations to Sharon Daw for completing the 52 marathon challenge in 52 weeks – 6 weeks ahead of the target – in 46 weeks and for completing the 3 times 10 mile challenge races along the way.

From one small Parish in East Cornwall 3 superb young runners were chosen to represent Cornwall and wear the black & gold shirt at the Saucony British Athletics Inter County Cross Country Championships at Loughborough.

Charli Dawson U13G, from St. Ive Cross, Tyler Gregory U13B and Grace Davidson U15G from Pensilva, after months of hard training were selected to represent Cornwall for the second year in succession.

The whole Cornish Team travelled together by bus to Loughborough on 10 March.

The weather was dry but the ground waterlogged and extremely muddy after weeks of heavy rain. The runners had to contend with steep slopes & deep mud.

There was incredible team spirit from the Cornish Runners – all age groups cheering on their teams showing great pride for Cornwall.

The team returned winning titles in U13G and U17 Women. The young runners deserve great praise for their effort and achievement.a
