Harriers report 30 September 2018.

EAST CORNWALL HARRIERS Report 30 September 2018.

Four Harriers made the trip to Barnstaple for the Jewsons Marathon and Half Marathon.

The route starts in Rock Park and heads to Heaton , skirting RAH Chivenor before heading back into Barnstaple then out to Fremington Quay via the Tarka Trail and returning via the Tarka Trail after rejoining at Yelland. The Half Marathon uses the latter part of the route.

After being 1st Lady last week at the Thorney Trail Enduro Ultra on 23 September, with a distance of 50 km in 5 hrs 1 min 57secs , Sharon Daw lined up and put in a time of 4.31.24 – placing her well within her attempt of 100 Marathons in 100 weeks – which if things go to plan will happen at the Cornish Marathon on 4th November 2018 - making it a very special event if she completes her ambitious personal challenge.

Tracey Brown joined Sharon at Barnstaple and put in a brilliant run to finish in 3h 57m 33 sec, first time under 4 hours in 7 years. Dave Hannah smashed his personal best and finished in 3h 38m 16 secs – a tremendous effort and now bringing the magical 3h 30m target with his sights.

The fast improving Ben Harding ran the Half Marathon in 1h 36 m 10 secs – putting the 1h 30m finish well within his target.

Julie Reynolds was the lone representative for the Harriers at the Bradleys Exmouth 10k. This 2 lap race along the sea front with a loop with a hill presented no problem for Julie who finished in 53m 1 sec. knocking a massive 7 minutes off her previous best time – a tremendous effort.

Preparations are now well in force for the Blue Riband Event of the Cornwall Road Running Grand Prix – the Cornish Marathon – the highlight of the Road Running Grand Prix series, around the stunning course that snakes around Bodmin Moor, starting and finishing at Millenium House Pensilva. Volunteers to help with the race are welcome as 65 marshalls are needed and current & former members and ECH supporters would be very welcome to come and help & enjoy the race and atmosphere. Contact can be made via the East Cornwall Harriers Web Site or Facebook Page.
