ECH Race Report 14 December 2018.

Cornish Marathon Charities Presentation

The highlight of the Cornwall Road Running Grand Prix is the Cornish Marathon held this year on the 4 th November 2018 the final race in a 15 race series with a field of over 400 competitors.

The marathon is not just a running race but together with the Fun Run is a Community event. In order for this to be run safely and efficiently for the runners and spectators and for road users – as it is an all road Marathon, East Cornwall Harriers are grateful for the help given by volunteer Marshalls and also local organisations.

Local organisations help with the many essential things needed from handling and storing runners clothes & equipment to manning the vital water stations around the course in usually quite cold and wet weather – spread over 26 miles.

Louise Harding the Race Director presented donations from the income from the Marathon to the many local organisations that helped and made the race another great success.

This year the main beneficiary was Children's Hospice South West who received £1000 to assist in their essential work. Other organisations that received donations for their brilliant help were 1st st. Ive Girl Guides, 1 st Liskeard Scouts, Caradon Swimming Club, Pensilva Primary School, Dobwalls FC, Lions of Liskeard and Cornwall Raynet. Special awards were also made this year to the National Autistic Society following Oliver Jones exceptional feat of running the Marathon 3 times in succession starting at midnight and completing 2 laps of the full course before joining all the other runners for the main race at 10 am in order to raise funds for them. And also for the Lily Bug Fund.

Another great celebration of running in Cornwall.
