Harriers Race Report 26 August 2019

EAST CORNWALL HARRIERS RACE REPORT 26 AUGUST 2019.

The Big Day Out on Dartmoor and for two Harriers it certainly was.

Pure Trail Running organised the Crossing a 37 mile Ultra Marathon race across Dartmoor from North at Belstone near Okehampton to Ivybridge on the South. This iconic race followed a new route this year 2.5 miles longer than in previous years.

Distance specialists Pat Munn and Sharon Daw lined up for the challenge across the moor – passing through Princetown and following trails, paths and open moorland. At times there are various obstacles to counter including stream crossings and boggy sections.

Pat completed the race in an amazing 6h 21m , 8th overall and 1st MV50 another excellent run from Pat. Sharon Daw familiar with running on Dartmoor and having run 39 miles last year on the moor was home in 7h 6mins , 4th lady and 1st FV 50 a brilliant run.

On Monday 26 August Triathlon came to Bodmin with 2 races centred at Bodmin Leisure Centre organised by IntoTri events. The Big Dragon – a 400 metre swim , followed by 26 k cycle race and 5.6 k run. Drew Clark currently leading the overall series put in a brilliant performance to come second overall in 1h 8 m. narrowly beaten by Michael Birchmore the world 25 -29 Ironman 70.3 champion. Drew is leaving us to go to University in October and his contribution to the Harriers will be missed – not forgetting his help at the Schools Cross Country Events – in all weathers. We wish him luck as he pursues a career in Sport. Marcus Wills put in another excellent Tri performance to finish as 8th Male in the open category in 1h 15m.

Craig Jamieson in only his 3rd Triathlon Event entered the Little Dragon Event , 200 m swim, 13k cycle ride and a 2.5 k run – and completed this in 50m 39s. Which was good enough for him to win the event, an outstanding performance for a senior male vet.
