EAST CORNWALL HARRIERS RACE REPORT 13 SEPTEMBER 2020.

2020 is a year like no other for East Cornwall Harriers and all runners.

So many disappointments of race and series cancellations and of course the cancellation of the London Marathon. Many runners had put in many miles of training – but runners are nothing if not determined to pursue the sport they love.

With some ingenuity - determination and hard work of our team captains and committee members they organised virtual races and competitions. This provided the opportunity for runners to again be joined in competition whilst obeying all the social distancing rules. Both individual and team events provided the opportunity for maintaining fitness and competitiveness – both vital for a runners well being.

Now some three quarters of the way through the year some events are now again being staged observing all the necessary safety precautions.

The Plym Trail Marathon organised by First and Last running took place on Dartmoor and Sharon Daw our outstanding marathon expert in her 354th marathon had a brilliant race finishing as first lady in 3h 52m 31sec on this tough Dartmoor course starting and finishing in Clearbrook Village. Obviously the long lay off did not affect Sharon.

Meanwhile at Blenheim Palace the Sims family had a great day out competing in the Sprint Triathlon now a regular event on their race calendar. Karen Sims finished in 2.03.08 and Andrew Sims in 1.43.17. The race has an open water lake swim followed by the cycle race on closed roads and then the run around the Queens Pool. A brilliant event in a stunning setting.

Marcus Wills competed in the Croyde Bay Ocean Triathlon nr 1 in Red Bulls best UK Triathlon List. A 1.5 km open water swim followed by 38 km cycle race and then a 12 km run. After a very solid start with the swim Marcus powered his way to a great time in the cycle race. Just after the start of the run Marcus twisted and badly damaged his ankle but bravely persevered to finish the race in a na excellent 2h 44m 54 secs.
