An update on training, membership and the way ahead.

07 January 2021
Written by: ROB PICK

Hi All,
As I hope you will all be aware, the club committee and the coaches and leaders have been constantly reviewing how we as a club can continue to ensure the interests of members and the club as a whole can best be maintained during the current crisis.

We have endeavoured to keep the membership updated through posts on both the website and facebook. You will appreciate I am sure that this has not been easy, with constantly changing circumstances and guidance from both Government and England Athletics.

The committee met again (virtually) last evening and agreed that a further general update was justified.

Training
In previous posts we have described how we have considered operating ‘Covid Secure’ training sessions. However coaches or leaders needed to be prepared to take on the additional demands and responsibilities that would be needed, and the required protocols would make sessions difficult to manage so that sessions may not be enjoyable enough to attract sufficient support. Informal but compliant group runs have however been organised independently for members to join if they so wish.

Now, of course under lockdown rules the situation is such that no such sessions are permissible, so there will remain for the foreseeable future to be no formal ECH training sessions.

The law now states that while outdoor exercise is allowed this should be for a limited period and be with only 1 person from outside your household. Although we greatly encourage members to keep running, they must follow these rules. While there can be no formal ECH sessions, you can still use the club forums to find a running partner if you need one.

Membership

As you will be aware the committee decided to roll on ECH membership free of charge until the current pandemic situation allows an AGM to take place. So everyone who paid their subs in April 2019 is STILL a member. We hope that by the time we come to April 2021 we can move forward but of course there is no guarantee.

We also want to make clear, as has previously been said, we still welcome any new members. A note to the membership secretary is all that is needed, and for a nominal sum he will sign you up !

Looking ahead

Of course in common with almost every other event, both the Cornish Marathon and the Trepolpen Seythin, our two club races, were cancelled in 2020. Indeed the 2021 Trepolpen which would have been on the last Sunday of March has also been cancelled. Keep an eye out for news as we are looking at maybe trying a virtual version of this for club members and friends.

As mentioned above, we can have no confidence in when any form of club training may be able to resume, but please be reassured that as soon as it can be safely and practically done we will do so.

Finally, of course it’s been a really difficult time for everyone, and for many of us running would normally be our chief escape from the daily grind. As a committee we are always available to any member who has a query or concern, or even better suggestions, on how we can do things better.

All the best to you all,

Rob
