EAST CORNWALL HARRIERS REPORT 5 JUNE 2021

08 June 2021
Written by: JAN SROCZYNSKI

After a very long lay off a special race to report upon - in fact this is regarded by many runners in the UK as a Race that needs to be on their CV - The Dartmoor Discovery known as the DD - the longest single lap road Ultra Marathon in the UK.

The race started and finished at Princetown Community Centre and it was brilliant to see 8 Harriers make it to the start and also be in the 211 finishers..

The race is a very tough circular route from Princetown through Dartsmeet and Poundsgate - 13 miles mostly downhill to Ashburton. From Ashburton then another 19 tough uphill miles on the toughest hills Dartmoor has to offer back to Princetown. This is a race for the best and most determined distance runners. For many after such a long lay off from competitive long races those who had put in a lot of training miles reaped the benefit.

First back for the Harriers was Oli Jones and Dave Hannah in the same time of 4.44.16. Ian Trice was next in 42nd place overall with 4.51.48. The resolute Pat Munn recorded 4.59.28. Diane Roy in her first race in 18 months & the only lady Harrier in this race finished in 5.03.45 and was 1st lady in her FV55 age category - another brilliant run and great return. Clive Shute was next in 5.04.30 and recorded his best ever time in this race another brilliant effort from Clive. Shane Caughey was next home in 5.19.19 – an excellent performance and Matthew Loughrey-Robinson completed the Harriers team with 6.16.10.

Excellent running by all the Harriers after such a long lay off.

Special Mention to Nikki Pritchard and her friend Charlotte Oliver who entered and completed the Warrior 24 off road Challenge at Powderham Castle. Not only did Nikki and Charlotte run brilliant legs - of 35 miles but they also picked up 3rd place in the small teams category. Tremendous effort.

As more events will slowly come back into the racing calendar please keep me informed if you are racing with event organiser- date and location . From this information I can compile reports.
