Six East Cornwall Harriers went over to visit Quimperlé, Liskeard’s twin town in Brittany, and to run with Quimperlé’s running club Les Galouperians. We departed late at night on the ferry on Friday 11th September, and returned on Monday 14th September. The six Harriers were Revis Crowle (head coach), Ian Crowle, Tessa Mason (Treasurer), Pete Nash (founder member who actually won a 10k in Quimperlé in the early 1990s), Nicole Doidge and Chris Ullman (Training co-ordinator). The town of Liskeard has a population of over 11,000 people, while Quimperlé is many times the size with a population of 64,000. Despite this East Cornwall Harriers has a membership of over 140 runners while Les Galouperians has a membership of over 60. We ran with two Galouperians on a hot Saturday afternoon (25c) for 5 miles as an introduction, and then on Sunday we ran “races” of varying distances accompanied by many Galouperians. They will be coming to Liskeard on the weekend of March 29th (Easter weekend) 2027, and we hope this will become a yearly exchange between the two clubs, as this one was a massive success. Thanks, must be given to Liskeard Town council who made the whole thing possible by funding the transport costs of all Harriers involved, and without them, the trip would not have happened.
