The Handicap

The East Cornwall Harriers Handicap event, is a fun and challenging event held in early September each year.   Club members who have taken part in races throughout the year, have a “handicap time” calculated based on a route around Menheniot.  The aim is for each runner to beat their handicap and the runners that beat it by the most, are the winners.

How does it work?

If you have entered one or more of the races below in the last year, then we can calculate a handicap time.   Each runner has the same finish time (7:15pm), and your start time is based on the handicap time.

Runners set off at their start time, and as they make their way around the course, they all get closer together as everyone is predicted to finish at the same time.  If runners do well and beat their handicap time, they will finish before 7:15pm.

The winners are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd across the line, as they will have beaten their time by the most.  It’s not about how fast you go against the others taking part, its about beating your own handicap time.

The start and finish is by Menheniot Village Hall, and after the event we go to The Sportsmans pub at Menheniot for a buffet and the results presentation.
