Sunday 10th October 2021 saw 2 groups of Harriers line up at Eden for the iconic Eden Marathon and Eden Half Marathon run around Clay Country.

The Eden Marathon is not for the faint hearted run off road for 70% of its route from Eden Project around Clay Country taking in the Luxulyan Valley.

In the Marathon 1st Harrier home was Pat Munn in 3.44.39 – 1st in his 55 – 59 category and 15th overall – great result. Shane Caughey was hot on Pats heels in a super 3h 57min.

Four of our lady Harriers started the race and 1st home was Sharon Daw in 4.06.45 and 1st in her 55 -59 category – another brilliant time following on from her London Marathon result. Our home grown running machine is averaging over 2 marathons per week and far from feeling the pace she is ever increasing it as she heads to 500 marathons. Second lady Harrier was Meeta Nicholls in 4.51 43 an excellent performance from her. Third was Lucy Oldham in 5.12.05 great effort from Lucy. 4th lady was Emma Earnshaw in 5.16.05. A tremendous bonus for the ladies was to get 4 finishers over the line to take the ladies team prize – the only club in Cornwall to do that on the day – so very many congratulations. Never was the saying so true that you have to be in it to win it.

The Eden Half Marathon is run about 60% on road and a very testing race. The race was won by former Harrier Marc Smerdon in a brilliant 1.20.41. David Philp put in a very strong performance as ever to finish in 1.35.27 and 1st in his age category. Marcus Wills came home in 1.40.09.

Four of our ladies lined up at the start with Terry King 1st home in 2.31.11 followed by Nikki Pritchard in 2.40.31. Sarah Steed and Jeanette Turpin finished together in 2.40.31 and 2.40.32. A good days racing on a tough course for all taking part so very well done.
